So you decide to embark upon an AdWords campaign. One thing is for sure, whether it is a campaign aimed at promoting an affiliate product or you are attempting to make sales of your own product in a niche market, it is absolutely crucial that you do your due diligence before you start your pay per click campaign. This is at least in part due to the fact that it is absolutely free to use. For many novice Internet marketers the cost is of crucial importance and for this reason alone it is worth investigating. Simply type into a Google search something along the lines of “Free Google keyword tool” and you’ll find it is number one in the rankings. Take time to study the nuances of how you use the tool. It is, of course, designed to help with an AdWords campaign and so there is much useful stuff you can find which will help you. Be aware however that they are trying to encourage you to take out the campaign and hence spend money with them.

Overall I would thoroughly recommend you use the free Google ad words keyword tool but not necessarily in isolation. There are plenty of other tools which will give you a similar or different information which you should consider looking at before you start your campaign. Remember a PPC campaign is not like an organic traffic campaign, it could cost you a lot of money if you get it wrong.

Other excellent free keyword tools include WordTracker’s keyword tool and the Keyword Discovery free tool. Exceptionally good keyword research tools which cost very reasonable one-off payments include Market Samurai and Micro Niche Finder. Indeed you can access the Market Samurai keyword tool for free the last time I looked but you need to do your due diligence. Some of my marketing friends swear by Keyword Elite 2.0. I generally find that for my AdWords campaigns I use a combination of the Google free keywords tool with Micro Niche Finder and Market Samurai.
